How To Use Sony Creative Look Recipes

Apply free film recipes to your Sony Alpha camera in under 2 minutes — no downloads, no software, no account needed. Everything is done in-camera.

01

Browse Free Recipes

Explore the free recipe library on this site. Each card displays the Creative Look base preset and all 8 parameter values — Contrast, Highlights, Shadows, Fade, Saturation, Sharpness, Sharpness Range, and Clarity — plus White Balance and Color Filter settings.

02

Open Creative Look Menu

On your Sony camera, navigate to Menu → Image Quality → Creative Look. Select the base preset shown in the recipe — choose from 9 options: ST, PT, FL, IN, SH, VV, VV2, BW, or SE.

03

Input the Parameter Values

Enter each value exactly as shown on the recipe card. Adjust Contrast, Highlights, Shadows, Fade, Saturation, Sharpness, Sharpness Range, and Clarity. Then set the custom White Balance (Kelvin) and Color Filter (Amber/Blue, Green/Magenta).

04

Save & Start Shooting

Save the look to a camera memory slot — slots 1–3 are on the mode dial, M1–M4 save to the SD card. Shoot RAW+JPEG so the recipe is baked into the JPEG while the RAW retains full editing flexibility. It’s free, it’s fast, and it’s all in-camera.

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about free Sony Creative Look film recipes.

Sony Creative Look recipes are free, community-shared in-camera color presets that reproduce classic film aesthetics straight out of camera (SOOC) on Sony Alpha mirrorless cameras. Each recipe specifies exact values for up to 8 adjustable parameters — Contrast, Highlights, Shadows, Fade, Saturation, Sharpness, Sharpness Range, and Clarity — applied on top of one of Sony's 9 built-in Creative Look bases (ST, PT, FL, IN, SH, VV, VV2, BW, SE). No paid software, plugins, or downloads are required.

Sony Creative Look is the next-generation in-camera color profile system introduced with the Sony A7IV (ILCE-7M4) in 2021, replacing the older Picture Profile (PP1–PP11) workflow. Creative Look provides 9 intuitive base presets — ST (Standard), PT (Portrait), FL (Film), IN (Instant), SH (Soft High-key), VV (Vivid), VV2 (Vivid 2), BW (Black & White), and SE (Sepia) — each with 8 adjustable parameters. Compared to Picture Profiles, Creative Look offers a simpler interface, real-time preview, and unified support for both stills and video in a single menu.

Using these free recipes takes about 2 minutes per look. Step 1: Browse the recipe library on this site and pick a look you like — every recipe card shows all parameter values. Step 2: On your camera, go to Menu → Image Quality → Creative Look and select the base preset (e.g. FL, IN, SH). Step 3: Input each value exactly as shown — Contrast, Highlights, Shadows, Fade, Saturation, Sharpness, Sharpness Range, Clarity, plus White Balance and Color Filter. Step 4: Save the look to a memory slot (1–3 on the mode dial, or M1–M4 on the SD card) and start shooting. We recommend RAW+JPEG so the recipe is baked into the JPEG while the RAW retains full editing flexibility.

As of 2025, over 30 Sony camera models support Creative Look. Full-frame mirrorless: A7IV, A7V, A7RV, A7CII, A7CR, A1, A1II, A9III. APS-C mirrorless: A6700, ZV-E10 II. Full-frame compact: RX1R III. Video/cinema: ZV-E1, FX3, FX3a, FX30, FX2. Older models — including the A7III, A7C (first generation), A6400, A6600, and A6100 — use Picture Profiles instead; similar film-like results can be achieved but the menu structure is different. Sony now includes Creative Look in all new camera releases, so compatibility grows with every product launch.

Yes, Creative Look recipes work for both stills and video on all supported cameras. For photography, shoot RAW+JPEG — the recipe is baked into the JPEG for instant SOOC results while the RAW file preserves full editing latitude for post-processing in Adobe Lightroom, Capture One, or DaVinci Resolve. For video, the Creative Look profile is applied directly to the recorded footage, giving you film-like color grading in-camera without LUTs.

No. Creative Look recipes are designed to deliver publication-ready colors straight out of camera (SOOC). The JPEG output includes optimized skin tones, color contrast, and tonal rendering that most photographers find ready to share without additional post-processing. If you want to refine the look further, you can — but it is entirely optional. The philosophy is: spend less time editing and more time shooting.

Yes. Sony Alpha cameras can closely replicate the look and feel of Fujifilm's popular film simulations — such as Classic Chrome, Classic Negative, Provia, and Velvia — by combining Creative Look presets with precise parameter adjustments. The key difference is that Sony uses numerical parameters (Contrast ±9, Saturation ±9, etc.) while Fujifilm uses named presets. The free recipes on this site are tuned specifically for Sony color science to match popular film aesthetics as closely as possible.

Yes, 100% free — no paywalls, no sign-up required, and no hidden costs. This is an open community platform where photographers share their Creative Look settings for anyone to use. Simply browse a recipe, read the parameter values on screen, and enter them into your camera. No software to install, no files to download, no accounts to create. Everything happens in-camera.

For natural portrait photography, start with the FL (Film) or PT (Portrait) base preset and apply these recommended values: Contrast +1 to +2, Highlights −1 to −2, Shadows +1 to +3, Saturation +1 to +2, Sharpness +1, and Clarity +1. For brighter, airy skin tones, use the SH (Soft High-key) base. For cinematic portraits with deeper tones, try IN (Instant) with Fade +1 to +2. Adjust White Balance to around 5600 K–6200 K for warm, flattering skin tones.

Sony Picture Profiles (PP1–PP11) are the legacy in-camera color adjustment system found on older Sony Alpha cameras, including the A7III, A7C, A6400, A6600, and A6300. Each profile lets you customize Gamma, Black Level, Color Mode, Saturation, Color Phase, and Color Depth. While Creative Look has replaced Picture Profiles on newer models, Picture Profiles can still achieve film-like results — they just require more manual adjustment. Our site focuses on Creative Look recipes, but the concepts translate to older cameras with some adaptation.
